| Lorraine Bracco to introduce new wine in Hamptons
Actress Lorraine Bracco is about to unveil Rosato, a new rose from Salento, Italy, the ninth wine under her Bracco Wines label. On Aug. 26, a lucky group of invited guests will gather at the Water Mill mansion of Bracco's friend, real estate principal/chef Andrew Borrok, for hors d'oeuvres and a tasting of the new import. Borrok's home is a 20,000-square-foot neoclassical dwelling built in 2005. While he made his fortune in real estate (he recently sold a building Manhattan for $350 million, according to his publicist), Borrok is an accomplished chef who will now concentrate on his culinary career, his publicist said. Also in attendance will be a retinue of real estate power players from the Corcoran Group, including Corcoran's president and chief executive officer Pamela Liebman, marketing strategist Neal Sroka, who heads Corcoran's Sroka Group, and Robby Browne, Corcoran senior vice president and one of the company's top agents in New York City.
Culinary Institute of America, a wonderful treat to myself
Nestled along the hills of world famous and renowned Napa Valley, about two hours North East of San Francisco is a huge old building which houses another famous landmark, the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Technically, it is situated in St. Helena and is known as CIA, St. Helena, California Campus. The other campus is at Hyde Park, New York in the East Coast. Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo Since I was staying with my kumpare Tony and kumare Susan (their 2nd child is my godchild) in Clayton, our trip to the Napa Valley was cut in half. Only an hour away, passing through Vallejo, another favorite destination of Pinoys in the San Francisco bay area, my "tourist" guide, in the person of Maribel or Ibing as she is fondly called, drove me to the beautiful hills of Napa Valley in her lovely BMW car! Maribel, also a registered nurse, originally hails from Dipolog City but grew up in Dumaguete City.
Wine Center Proposed for Geneva
The idea of wine centers in the Finger Lakes is catching on. After a little more than a year, more than 80,000 people have visited the New York Wine and Culinary Center in Canandaigua. Ithaca and Watkins Glen are working on concepts for centers in the southern Finger Lakes. And in Geneva, city and college leaders presented their plan to city council this week. The committee wants to renovate the Geneva chamber of commerce and house the wine and education center inside. The president of the Fingers Visitors Connection Tourism Bureau says there's still plenty of opportunity for growth. "We have 23 million visitors come to the area and 74-percent of those go to the wineries. So there's a lot of people to spread around and just having them decide which one to come to is the important thing.
